absolute value- the distance a number is from 0 on the number line (ex. |-8| = 8)

coefficient- the number amount in a mathematical expression (ex. 5x. 5 is the coefficient)

equation- mathematical sentence that shows two expressions are equal (7 x 9 + 3 (4 + 5) = 86)

inequality- a number sentence showing that two groups of numbers stand for different numbers (ex. 7 + 5 > 12-9)

integer- any member of the set of positive or negative counting numbers and 0 (-4, -3, -2,-1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4…)

linear equation- an equation that when represented on a graph resembles a straight line

negative integer- any number that is less than zero

number line- a line that has numbers corresponding to the points along it (0  1  2  3   4    5    6   7  8)

numerator- the top number on a fraction line

odd number- any number not divisible by 2

ordered pair- a pair of numbers in a certain order, with the order being of significance

origin- the center point of a number line (coordinate (0,0)  )

place value- the value assigned to a number based on its position in a numeral

positive integer- any number greater than 0

prime number- a number that is divisible by itself and 1

solution- the number that substitutes a variable to complete an equation

variable- a symbol in a number sentence that could be substituted by a number ( 3+9x =903) x is the variable

X-axis- the horizontal line of a coordinate graph (————————-x)

Y-axis- the vertical line of a coordinate graph (——————-y)
