Grade Point Average

Take all of the letter grades that you receive in a semester and divide it by the total number of grades that you received. How do you calculate your G.P.A.? Use the 4.0 scale below.

A = 4        B = 3        C = 2 D = 1        F = 0

EX. If you have straight As on your report card, your G.P.A would be 4.0.

Sample Report Card

Tamisha Corey

PRESTIGIOUS ACADEMY PRINCIPAL: ANGELICA W.
ENGLISH A
ALGEBRA 1 C
SOCIAL STUDIES B
U.S. HISTORY B
SCIENCE A

Tamisha discovered her G.P.A. by following these steps.

STEP 1: Multiply the amount of each letter grade by the worth of each letter grade

[ 2(4), 2(3), 1(2) ]

STEP 2: Add the sum of all the letter grades

[ 8 + 6 + 2 ]

STEP 3: Divide the sum of the letter grades by the total number of grades on the report card.

[ 16/5 ]

STEP 4: Round your answer to the nearest tenth.

[3.2]

Tamisha’s G.P.A. is 3.2, which is equivalent to a B-.

Class Rank

Where do you rank in your grade? Class rank is written as two numbers. The first number represents your status in your grade, and the second number represents the total class. So, if you have the second highest G.P.A. in your class, then your class rank would be 2/# of students in class.
